The entry of Velux, the world leader in residential skylights for
60 years, into the commercial skylight market is exciting news. Commercial
property owners now have the option of installing a thermally efficient,
maintenance free skylight systems that will perform 20 years from now the
same as the day it is installed. The past few decades have seen the acrylic dome style skylight become the choice of architects and builders. Because of the problematic nature of acrylic dome style skylights, in relation to condensation problems, water leakage , fading, heat gain and loss, etc., the industry has received a poor reputation. The advent of caulking compounds has also left a black mark on the industry. Most skylights that depend upon caulk as a waterproofing agent require a lot of maintenance over the life of the skylight. The new Velux commercial system is an A-Frame skylight that has a waterproofing system that is based downward overlap. No sealants or caulk is used when this system is properly installed. Each system comes with a thermal break and adequate condensation gutters that have been tested in northern climates . The lenses in the skylights are guaranteed against seal failure for 20 years by Velux. No one else offers that.  The photos above right show a large commercial project we did for Fairview out in St. Catherines, Ontario last summer. Lots of preplanning created a site safe for both us and shoppers below. Using Velux's new commercial grade skylights made the job progress smoothly and will give years of trouble free use and they look great. |
